Response to Freedom of Information Request Relating to the Alt Centre

The Parish Council has received an extensive Freedom of Information request from a resident with regards to the Alt Centre and has a legal duty to respond to that request. The request has been forwarded to the Legal Services Department of Sefton Council to prepare a response on our behalf. The cost of dealing with this request will have a significant impact upon the limited resources available to the Parish Council and will affect future plans and activities in our village and community.

The Parish Council would like to point out to all residents that every activity and action it takes is open to scrutiny, debate and discussion at the Parish Council Meetings which are open to the public. All decisions and actions, financial or otherwise are recorded in the minutes and published on the Parish Council Website and displayed in the Parish Council Noticeboard, thus ensuring openness, transparency and accountability. The only exceptions to this are matters of a confidential and sensitive nature which are dealt with in the closed session of the agenda, the results of those discussions are however publicly recorded in the minutes and published on the website and the noticeboard.

The Parish Council would like to reiterate once again for clarity, that they have repeatedly reassured residents that the Alt Centre is not closing down and the activities that take place there, including the community café, community library, cycle workshops, beach cleaning activities, Astronomical Society Meetings and the availability of the facilities to residents and other interested community groups are only suspended whilst the building is temporarily closed due to the pandemic. It will reopen to the public as a community resource and all activities resume, once it is safe to do so.

The request received under the Freedom of Information Act along with our response and documents disclosed can be accessed here.
