Please note the following on behalf of the Commandant Altcar Training Camp – Lt Col Gordon Black:
You may have heard helicopters in the Hightown area this week? The organisers of the military exercise – along with Commandant at Altcar Training Camp - have very kindly offered the opportunity for the public to come onto site and view 2 types of helicopter.
To that end, the camp will be open from 08.00 – 9.30 am on Friday 24 January for the public to view the helicopters on the ground. Aircrew will be on standby to answer any questions individuals may have. It is appreciated that this is during school time but being operational helicopters this is the only time within their programme.
There are a number of conditions that those wishing to visit the site must comply with:
• Individuals must have some form of ID – usually a driving licence or passport. There is no individual ID requirements for juveniles who are accompanied by adults. All those under 18 years of age, must be accompanied by an adult.
• Access to the site is through the main camp entrance on foot only. No vehicle traffic will be permitted. The walk from the entrance to the field is approximately 400 meters. Parking outside the main entrance is not permitted. Hightown residents will be familiar with the area. Those outside the village are made aware that the train station is a short distance from the camp. Individuals should not bring daysacks/bags etc. as this could delay entry as they would be searched as a condition of entry
• Photography will only be allowed with aircrew permission.
• Please note that there is vehicular and troop activity around the site – very busy at times and anyone visiting the site must give way to vehicles and troops transiting around the site
Lastly, these helicopters could be re-tasked at any time and may have to re-deploy at a moment’s notice. Members of the public must appreciate this potential action. If we are informed that they are unable to be present at Altcar on Friday we will endeavour to inform the public by posting a note on the NW RFCA Facebook page.
